Person-driven goals, what is that?
Here is the 3 MIQ technique
​and why it works.


​Person-driven goals are those that are rooted in your values, and personal motivations, rather than external benchmarks or societal expectations. Instead of focusing solely on outcomes, person-driven goals focus on your own growth and fulfilment.

One powerful method for setting these kinds of goals is the 3 MIQ technique:
I am borrowing this method from Vishen Lakhiani, the founder of MindValley who uses this technique with all his new employees.

According to Vishen, these are the 3 MIQ Most Important Questions:


  • Experiences: What do I want to experience this year?
    Why it works: We do not achieve things for the sake of achieving. We strive for goals because of the way they will make us feel.


  • Growth: How will I need to grow in order to experience them?
    Why it works:  We reach goals not only because of the things we do - 20% but because of the person we become along the way, the 80%.


  • Contribution: What will I contribute as I grow and experience?
    Why it works: We grow fastest and greatest when we know that our growth impacts and benefits others, that we can give back.

I am a big supporter of the MIQ technique and have seen it do miracles for many clients. Especially, when we have someone to hold us accountable for what we have put on the paper.
