Life after burnout:
​
Things that may be helpful to 
know when it happens to us




Burnout is a big topic in coaching and most likely, it will continue to be.

We know that the high performers in a team are particularly vulnerable to burnout. They may feel compelled to constantly deliver results, leading to exhaustion and diminished effectiveness.

We may know everything below and somehow we still fail to apply it:
  • The boundary of self care: We know that of course, and yet it is key to remember. Givers are more susceptible to burn out - they are far more likely to say yes to helping others, to forget themselves in the process.
    But there is one trait that some givers have - Adam Grant in Give and Take calls them otherish givers. Otherish givers strike a balance by helping others while also ensuring their own needs and goals are met. That is the one trait that protects them in the long run.


  • The importance of seeing impact: We often think of burn out as too much to do - which it can be. But another overlooked factor is a disconnection from the impact of our work. Grant highlights that givers, in particular, thrive when they can see the positive outcomes of their efforts. When we perceive that our work is making a meaningful difference, we feel more energized and less likely to experience burnout.

We are still researching and understanding how to best help ourselves and others in these stages that have almost become part of the life we lead. And as we do, we also see how important topics of health & wellbeing are.

Yes, I have heard somewhere that burnout is loss of hope.
    Well. It is often a personal experience but…
