Is this whole health and wellbeing talk just a new hype?

Well - the topic of wellbeing is definitely in the spotlight in the last few years. Our jobs and lifestyles are more complex and the impact of stress, poor habits, lack of sleep, isolation, anxiety, processed food, loneliness, etc. have become much more severe.
Which is one of the reasons why we all are interested in the topic of leading healthier and happier lives. 

But there is one more aspect that I find particularly interesting and that is - the birth of Health Psychology. Although elements of it were present for centuries, it  was in 1978 with the APA (American Psychological Association) formal recognition that we accepted the link between our physical health and the state of our psychological state.

We also started to adopt the biopsychosocial model of health, which recognizes the connection between biological, psychological, and social factors in influencing well-being and illness.

It sounds very obvious to us now - but let us remember that it was not always like this. The body was just the body, the mind and emotions were something separate. The role of society or community was not even accounted for.
Now we see that a person as a whole - emotions, physiology, mindset, habits, social support and much more. So the topic of wellbeing is just the beginning of a field that we have only now begun to research.
