14.

Stress Resilience: it is a skill we build and master, not a personality trait

Stress resilience is often misunderstood as something we are either born with or lacking. But it is actually a learned skill - much like emotional intelligence.

Also important to note that resilience is not about being "tough", stiffening up a lip or having an unshakable personality. Stress resilience involves developing skills to manage and bounce back from life's challenges.

Stress comes from many sources, but there are common ways to help it:
  • Emotional regulation: our ability to manage our emotions is the base, the key and the building stone to resilience.
  • Reframing negative thoughts: easier said than done, but the skill to build the right mindset is the second building block.
  • Mindfulness practices: there is a reason why these methods have gained popularity - they help us cultivate calm and perseverance .
  • Problem-solving skills: we often call it resourcefulness - the ability to break down problems and find multiple solutions can only be present when our emotions are in an empowered state, and mind is clear.
  • Building support and community: nothing great was ever done alone, and our trusted circle is highly important in stress resilience. It is not whether they are constantly present - it is that they are building us up, rather than bringing us down.

Just like emotional intelligence, stress resilience is something anyone can develop. This is why some companies have started implementing programs.

Yes, I feel like my work is my main source of stress. Why is that?
Well, we spend most of our time at work, let us talk about that.
