Stress management and 
​
believing in something greater than us.

Believing in something greater than ourselves - whether it is a sense of purpose, a spiritual belief, or a personal mission - helps our emotional and physical resilience in the face of stress. Research suggests that having a higher purpose can enhance our ability to manage stress and build endurance through different life changes.


The Emotional Benefit:
Having a belief system or a deeper sense of meaning provides a powerful buffer against stress. A study by Krause (2006) found that individuals with a strong sense of purpose had lower levels of anxiety and depression, as their beliefs helped them reframe challenges as part of a greater plan. This is why stress itself is not always the problem but the lack of purpose.

The Physical Benefit:

Belief in something greater can also impact physical health. Research has shown that spiritual practices like prayer or meditation can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone), reduce inflammation, and improve overall health (Pargament et al., 2004). We all know of stories of incredible human strength, endurance and power when one is driven by inner spirit.

This is why often we work with organisations and people on stress management - one aspect is indeed managing the stress - but another just as important question to ask is: do I believe that what I do matters? Who or what am I doing it for? What do I believe in?

Ugh, just asking that gives me anxiety. I feel there is a lot I am avoiding.
                 This may sound strange but anxiety is not an enemy. It is your friend.
