Making a Self-Care Routine:
​3 Essential Elements


When working with someone that is building a self care routine, we always take a look at all aspects of life and see what is well and what is suffering.


Usually, all of us already have a hunch of what a good self care routine would look like for ourselves. It is usually not complicated. To make it effective and sustainable, focus on these three key elements:

  • Physical Care - do what you love and what you do notYour body needs attention to feel its best. A self care routine may include doing things we love like dancing, yoga, massages, sunbathing, but it will also include things like medical check-ups, paying bills, being responsible with our duties and things we do not exactly feel excited to do.

  • Mental Care - make space for laughter and funPractices like meditation, journaling are the most common things in mental self care but from experience, I also notice many of us as adults have forgotten the joy of laughter, of fun, of creativity.

  • Emotional Care - let emotions flow, that is what they do. Connection with others, setting healthy boundaries, and practicing self-compassion are key. And knowing not suppressing emotions but letting them flow (in a safe for ourselves and others manner) is key to having a healthy relationship with our emotions.

Ok, I understand that. But what exactly can a self care ritual look like?
