Building our self-love: making friends with the inner critic.

We all have that inner voice - the inner critic - that can be harsh, judgmental, and unrelenting. Believe it or not, even the most successful, the most famous and most desired people often share in interviews the same thoughts that we can all relate to.
And when it comes to making changes in our lives, the inner critic becomes even louder.

But rather than trying to "overcome" or silence it, the real work lies in learning to make friends with it.

Why making friends with it works:
  • Acceptance over Resistance: When we try to shut down the inner critic, we only amplify its voice. Instead of battling it, accept its presence without judgment. Recognizing it as part of our inner dialogue helps us stop reacting to it with shame or fear.

  • Transforming the Narrative: Shift from "I'm not good enough" to "I’m doing my best." The inner critic often stems from deep-rooted beliefs that can be reframed into opportunities for growth.

  • Self-Compassion: For many coaching modalities or therapy frameworks, the voice of the inner critic is simply a younger part of ourselves that is either scared or trying to protect us. This is why it helps to ask, “What does this part of me need?" We often ask this in coaching sessions in order to get that part of ourselves onboard.

Making peace with your inner critic does not mean accepting its negativity, but rather learning to understand its voice without letting it control our self-worth. It is also a part of us that tends to see everything binary - either good or bad, black or white, success or failure.

My biggest struggle is creating self love for my body, it has changed a lot.
Women are often under far more expectations when it comes to that.
