Building self care habits: Do affirmations actually work?


Affirmations are a popular tool, but do they really work? There are many other factors that we need to take into consideration and the short answer is yes,
but with the right mindset and consistency.

How Affirmations Work:
  • Reprogramming the Mind: Affirmations help rewire your brain, replacing negative thought patterns with positive ones. By repeating affirmations, we can shift your mindset over time.

  • Boosting Confidence: Regularly affirming your worth and abilities builds self-confidence and encourages positive action.

  • Shifting emotions: Affirmations help us manage emotions and with the right physical movement, they can help us shift from disempowered state to an empowered state.

There is one last aspect of affirmations done regularly that actually is often missed but it is crucial - they make us take actions! When affirmations start to gather some momentum, you will find yourself getting inspiration for actions you can take that are aligned with these statements. This is key! Taking these actions is what makes affirmations your new identity.

While affirmations alone won’t solve all problems - they need actions and consistently showing up for ourselves - they can be a powerful addition to your self-care routine when paired with other practices like meditation or exercise, or little rituals where we honour ourselves.

I love cleaning my home and cooking. Does this count as self-care?
