Our home is an important part of self-care. Here’s why.

Our home is more than just a place to live - it is a sanctuary that can significantly impact our well-being. We say - home is where the heart is. But often it also feels like a place of overwhelm, a never ending to-do list, full of clutter and paperwork, especially if we also work at home. On the other hand a peaceful, organised environment can nurture both our physical and emotional health.

Our home is often a reflection of our standards, our priorities and our interests. We must understand that everything is energy. When looking at our home we can also ask:  What am I tolerating?

Turning our home or part of it into a personal sanctuary:
  • Find a calm environment: it may be a tiny spot but find a  clutter-free, calming space helps reduce stress and anxiety. This is your space for either meditation or a cup of tea.

  • Restful sleep: A comfortable, quiet bedroom is key for quality rest, which directly affects your physical and mental health. We sleep better in cooler environments, away from electronics.

  • Personal space: Your home is where you can recharge and be yourself. Designating a space for relaxation or hobbies nurtures creativity and relaxation.

It still surprises me how many of us underestimate the power of the environment we live in. Imagine this for a moment - you live in a beautiful spacious house with a lot of sunlight, flowers, and amazing aroma everywhere. It is not long before we start feeling a little better ourselves, a little more special, a little almost extravagant. The opposite surrounding has the same effect on us, but in an undesirable way.

Seems like the topic of self care is a very big field in health and wellbeing.
Indeed. It is a big field of research and coaching.
